A digital guide for living with multiple sclerosis

The Challenge

A diagnosis of multiple sclerosis brings chaos and an urgent need to navigate a new lifestyle. Building on our previous work with Roche on a physical guide, we defined a clear next step: creating a safe, centralized online haven. Patients often search the internet for answers, only to find a mix of useful advice and unverified myths. The goal wasn't just to put digital brochures on a phone, but to build a comprehensive tool explaining the disease, treatment, and legal aspects clearly. We needed to make extensive medical data accessible, digestible, and available 24/7.

The Process

When designing the app, we had to put ourselves in the shoes of users whose abilities might be limited by the disease. We understood that the target audience might struggle with vision or fine motor skills. Therefore, we avoided complex elements and opted for a clean interface with bold typography and simple navigation. To make consuming information as easy as possible, we didn't limit ourselves to text. We conceptualized the app as a multimedia hub with integrated podcasts and videos, allowing users to absorb information in the format that suits them best. We fine-tuned the structure so no one gets lost, keeping the path to answers as short as possible.

The Solution

We selected technologies with budget efficiency and future client independence in mind. Flutter became the core of our development, allowing us to efficiently build the app for both iOS and Android simultaneously. Instead of paying for two separate development teams, we could invest resources into refining features. We built a custom backend for Roche using the Laravel framework. This was key for flexibility—Roche editors now have full control over the content. We created a stable environment where technology serves as a reliable channel between patients and expert information.
